How to Choose a Marrakech Tour Operator: 7 Essential Verification Checks
Par Rachid — Propriétaire et rédacteur des itinéraires, Rachid Excursions

Marrakech tour sales pages tend to look alike. What separates operators is what they will put in writing before you pay. This checklist sets out the seven things to ask for, why each matters, and what we publish ourselves, so you can hold us to the same standard.
1. The total price, and what it is calculated on
Shared day trips and desert tours are usually priced per person; private transfers are often priced per vehicle. Our airport transfer, for example, is €15 / MAD 150 per vehicle for 1–3 passengers, so three people pay the same as one. Ask for the total for your whole party, in one currency, in writing.
2. What is included, and what is paid locally
Two trips at the same headline price can end the day far apart. On our shared Ouzoud waterfalls trip, the boat ride (about 20 MAD) and lunch (about 100–150 MAD) are paid on site. Each of our tour pages lists what is included and what is paid locally; ask any operator for the same two lists.
3. The exact pickup point
Many riads sit in pedestrian-only medina lanes that no vehicle can reach. Our pickup is included from all accessible Marrakech hotels and riads; for deep medina riads, the driver meets you at the nearest vehicle drop-off point. Ask for that meeting point and the pickup time in writing.
4. Whether a shared departure runs on your date
Shared tours depend on enough travellers booking the same date, so treat a promise that a trip runs every day with caution. We do not publish a guaranteed daily schedule: shared departures are confirmed for your specific date in writing before payment. If group size matters to you, ask; we do not yet publish a maximum.
5. Payment and deposit terms
Know when you pay, how much and by which method. Most of our standard day tours are paid on the tour day in cash (MAD, EUR or USD) unless your written confirmation says otherwise. Where supplier or accommodation costs require a deposit, the amount, payment method and refund terms are confirmed in writing before payment.
6. Cancellation terms
Ask what happens if you cancel, and what happens if the trip cannot run. Our published rule: cancel at least 7 days before departure for a full refund of any advance payment; later changes are handled under the written booking terms. For weather-dependent activities such as the balloon flight, read that activity's own terms too.
7. Business identity and licence details
A trading name and a WhatsApp number are not a business identity. Our About page lists the identity details we have not published yet; ask for them, from us or any operator, in writing before you pay, and we send what we hold:
- The registered legal entity name as it appears on the trade register
- The Moroccan tourism licence or authorisation number, and the issuing authority
- The ICE (Identifiant Commun de l'Entreprise)
- The RC (Registre de Commerce) number and registry city
- The passenger or transport insurer's name and policy reference
For activities an operator books but does not run, ask who operates them. Our balloon flight is one: we organise the booking and transfer, and the operating company is named in your written confirmation.
Reviews and replies: test them yourself
Read reviews on the operator's live Google profile rather than a rating copied onto a website; our reviews section links to the live profile for that reason. Then send a specific question and see how quickly and precisely it is answered. Our standard is that we usually reply within 30 minutes on WhatsApp during operating hours.
